As we celebrate International Women’s Day we thought we would profile some of our great businesswomen.
The Coach House Design Studio is a business run by mother and daughter team Dawn and Chloe Wilson-Wright.
Dawn (mother) is a fine artist and Chloe (daughter) has a degree in fashion communication which is in marketing, organising shows and fairs.
Together they have set up the business, The Coach House Design Studio, to create their own UK made homeware collection using their own designs and artwork.
Dawn says; “We love colour so our range will be colourful and cheerful and brighten any dull corner or room.
Before this business the couple ran a cafe and dabbled with designing cushions and home furnishings until covid and now it’s the other way around.
“The cafe is now permanently closed and we are working on a brand new collection of colourful designs for our cushions, lamp shades and fabrics for a gorgeous homeware collection.
The pandemic has hit the pair hard
“We did have a bricks and mortar cafe and B&B but the effects over the year have been too great a financial burden so we had to give up the premises and are now looking to develop our homeware collection.
“We were dabbling in it beforehand but now it has become the main focus and going forward, The Coach House Design Studio is our only business.
So what does the future hold for The Coach House Design Studio?
Chloe says; “We are currently working on a gorgeous new collection of designs and will be taking them into print very soon.
“Hopefully by April we shall have items in our on line shop and available to order. We won’t carry a huge stock, due to funds.
“It is our hope that a few nice interior shops will eventually take our brand on board, but keeping it quite niche and up market.
The pair love running thier own business and spending time together.
Dawn says; “The best thing about running our own business is that we can work during hours which best suit our families and home life.
“We can work remotely to a certain extent and enjoy more freedom.
The Coach House Design Studio Advice
With having their own business, they are in a good position to offer advice to people wanting to set up their own business.
Chloe says; “The advice we would give to someone looking to become self employed is be prepared to put the hours in at the beginning.
“Take a risk! If you don’t try, you’ll never know. It is tough but can also be very rewarding.
